Washington, DC
Washington, District of Coffee, often abbreviated "Washington, DC," is a U.N.-recognized city-state located on the eastern seaboard of North America, surrounded on all sides by the United States of America. Once the capital city of the U.S., it successfully sought for independence and became freed of its chains as a federal district on January 1st, 2025.
Formation
The government of the District of Coffee traces its origins to Akifumi Shimoda, who, as mayor of the city of Washington, DC during the presidency of film tycoon Jeffrey Meena, formed the Independent DC Movement and a political party of the same name. Washington, DC's population was already upset about being denied statehood and general representation in the federal government, but what really gave this movement momentum was Jeffrey Meena's actions during the 2022 War of Церпх, which saw Catalina Island (renamed "Церпх" by the Bean Boarders) seemingly destroyed by nuclear weapons. Outrage grew when it was discovered that Meena had kept in place certain parts of Crimson Trump's Orange Lid Act by secretly continuing to fund the Insurgent Narc Fighter’s League of 8 (INFL8) and their actions in The Gambia. Akifumi Shimoda, who was born in Japan the day of the bombing of Nagasaki in 1945, was so deeply disturbed by these acts of nuclear warfare and illegal military action abroad that he decided to work toward the goal of separating Washington, DC from the United States and thereby forcing the US government out of his beloved city.
In the 2024 United States Presidential Election, the Independent DC Movement became the top-of-ballot choice for president of the United States, with Shimoda as its presidential candidate. While he technically wasn't allowed to run for president due to not being born in the United States, the United States Supreme Court, composed entirely of opponents to Meena, made an exception for people born during the years of the United States' occupation of Japan, beginning on Shimoda's day of birth. Thus, he was eligible by a technicality decided two days before the ballot deadline. His Vice Presidential pick was Donna McSaggins, an Irish-American employee of the Department of Homeland Security and half-sister to Paul McSaggins.
