"Coffeegate" is an ongoing controversy in the United States, generally considered to be a conspiracy theory. In reality, the conspiracy ranges from blaming coffee for the coronavirus to claiming that coffee, if properly utilized, could even cure the coronavirus.
One of the main proponents of the theory that coffee could cure the coronavirus is mens' health writer Tay Gritty, who was brought onto several televangelist programs to advertise his special brew of coffee. When the federal government mysteriously declared "medicinal" coffee illegal in late 2020, the hype towards the conspiracy grew in fringe communities in the United States.
