Nero Risotto Kombo, born in 1880 in Florence Italy to a wealthy family was a businessman and entrepreneur. He was the father of Luca Kombo, the founder KOMBO convenience stores that are spread around West Africa but mostly concentrated in the Gambia.
Gambian Holiday
In 1937, when Luca was 18, the Kombo family was on a family vacation where Luca was inspired by the Gambian culture to make a store dedicated to selling coffee. Nero gave his son a small loan of 200 Dalasi to start the business. On the same day, Nero married his girlfriend of 20 years and mother of Luca, Ghiaccio.
